Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: Located in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is one of the oldest and largest tiger reserves in India. It is named after the Tadoba Lake and the Andhari River that flow through the reserve. Tadoba is known for its high density of tigers and offers excellent opportunities for tiger sightings. Apart from tigers, you can also spot leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs, and a variety of bird species.
Pench National Park: Straddling the border of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, Pench National Park is renowned as the setting for Rudyard Kipling's famous novel, "The Jungle Book." The park is divided into two parts: Pench National Park in Madhya Pradesh and Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. It is characterized by its dense forests, hilly terrain, and the meandering Pench River. Along with tigers, Pench is home to animals like leopards, Indian gaur, wild dogs, and over 285 bird species.
Kanha Tiger Reserve: Situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Kanha Tiger Reserve is one of the largest and most well-known tiger reserves in India. It served as the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book" as well. Kanha is known for its extensive grasslands, dense forests, and picturesque landscapes. Apart from tigers, you can encounter other wildlife such as Indian leopards, sloth bears, Indian wild dogs, and several species of deer, including the rare barasingha. The reserve is also famous for its conservation efforts and successful tiger repopulation initiatives.
